General Artist Statement
“I am a visual artist that currently works and resides in Denver, Colorado. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. Some of my first memories consist of me digging through old drawing books I inherited from my older brothers, coloring the walls of my childhood home in Ciudad Juarez, and copying art I saw during my day to day life. Since I was six, my goal has always been to be an artist when I grew up, a goal I suppose I will always be working towards.
Since then, art has been a way for me to express myself and communicate with others what I can’t put into words. Whether these be feelings, thoughts, or experiences; I have always felt most comfortable sharing those feelings with the world through my art. My art is a way for me to share who I am and share a part of myself that I wouldn’t be able to share in any other way.
The art that I create consists of digital media, paintings, and graphite drawings. In between making what I would consider to be my “serious works” I enjoy spending the majority of my time collecting images, quotes, and other bits and pieces from my daily life to sketch. I find that sketching gives me peace of mind in the midst of my so-called life. It has become a way to calm my mind for just a moment and stop my thoughts from racing so I can enjoy some time with things and people I love. The sketches often wind up becoming parts of my more ambitious works if they are lucky, the rest serve as small windows to the different stages of my life.
Through my art I hope I can share the love I have for the things I enjoy most in my life whether that be my friends, family, culture, and interests. I hope to share a bit of myself with the world and bring new ways of thinking to others, or at least get them talking about something they may not have given much thought to before. Nothing beats a good conversation where you learn something new. My goal is not necessarily to become the best artist or even a great artist. I just want to be an artist who can make someone feel something with their art.”
